National Tsunami Readiness Exercise “IOWave25”

ARCSN Participates in National Tsunami Readiness Exercise “IOWave25”

On 5th November 2025, members of the Amateur Radio Civil Services Network (ARCSN), operating under the callsign 4S7RCS, took part in the National Tsunami Readiness Exercise “IOWave25” in coordination with the Radio Society of Sri Lanka (RSSL) and the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) at Galle.

The Galle station transmitted and received updates on evacuations, status of essential services, restoration progress, availability of shelters, medical assistance requirements, and other key operational information, with frequent announcements to indicate it was a mock drill. The main RSSL coordination centre operated from Colombo, supported by another station at Kalutara.

We thank the RSSL, its President and Council, for coordinating the exercise and inviting ARCSN to participate. The drill showcased the vital role of amateur radio in disaster situations and reinforced ARCSN’s mission to assist during emergencies.

We especially thank those who volunteered and represented amateur radio with distinction: Jayantha – 4S5SC, Ifthar 4S6MIR, Chamara – 4S6CAL, Udara – 4S5MCU, and SWL Buddhila.
